Allah has made this convenience for us Muslims that we can offer prayers anywhere in the world (provided that we perform them in their correct timings). However, there are certain complications that come into play when we’re residing in a Non-Muslim country such as the prohibition of giving Adhan on loudspeakers, giving dawah to our fellows, the availability of Halal food etc. In such cases, we must proceed with caution and behave accordingly. A few of the situations with their solutions are discussed below:
Prohibition on giving Adhan:
Most of the Non-Muslim countries forbid this practice. According to them, it creates disturbance. However they do allow the facility of placing some devices in the homes of our brother Muslims who wish to hear the Adhan. This way, the sound of Adhan would be heard only in their homes and not in the neighborhood. Although, we’re instructed in our religion to give Adhan in a way that it’s heard in the neighboring areas but if we’re living in a Non-Muslim country we can only obey and respect their rules.
Availability of Mosques and Halal food:
These are the fundamentals or the most important entities in a Muslim’s life. We eat halal food and go to mosques for offering prayers (if not all then at least the jummah prayers). In Muslim countries we have the luxury of mosques being available in almost every town we go. However, in non-Muslim countries it’s not so. Therefore, we have to ask around for Mosque directions.
There is another convenience for us Muslims these days: smartphones apps. There are some Islamic Mosque finder apps that tell you the directions, point you to it or tell you the exact address of the nearest Mosque based on your GPS location. Not only has that, these apps often told the location of the nearest Halal restaurant as well. One such app is the ‘Mosque and Halal finder’. Upon entering your location, you can tap on the ‘mosque Location’ or the ‘halal food location’ tab to see the list of halal food restaurants and mosques within your 10km radius. It also tells you their distance from your location and the approximate time it would take to reach there. If you have trouble reaching there on your own then you may tap on the option that uses Google maps to make a route for you.
Tableegh prohibition:
This is a practice where Muslims travel to different societies and convey the message of Islam to non-Muslims or preach our brother Muslims how to be a better Muslim. Non-Muslim countries generally don’t allow this practice. Well we can’t fight on it; it’s their home so their rules. We can only opt for some alternative methods like giving online lessons, advertise, creating facebook pages/groups etc. It won’t be true tableegh in its essence but this is all we can do when living in a foreign country with certain prohibitions. We have to respect the rules of places where we’re living.
Conclusion:
In Islam, we are given clear instructions to migrate back to our home countries or any other Muslim country if we’re facing religious difficulties in the foreign country that we’re residing. We are, however allowed to do business over there but in that case as well living is prohibited if our religious sentiments are being hurt. The sole reason being that Muslims are required to pray five times a day with strict timings and no relaxation whatsoever in skipping any. Therefore, we must take care of the timings and migrate at the first chance we get if we’re facing religious obstructions.
