Quran and Hadith, a single path and fundamental source of Islam which guides us the true knowledge and are basic needs of our daily life. Quran is the word of Allah whereas hadith is the implementation of the message sent by Allah. By hadith we mean the sayings or actions of Muhammad (P.B.U.H). It is impossible to understand Quran without the reference of hadith and it is impossible to explain a hadith without relating it to Quran. This is the reason why we cannot choose one between them. As it is clearly said in Quran:
“Say, "Obey Allah and the Messenger." But if they turn away - then indeed, Allah does not like the disbelievers.”
(Al-Quran [3:32])
Quran Majeed:
Quran is the religious book of Islam which we (Muslims) believe is the words of Allah sent upon Holy Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) through angel. Quran was completed in 23 years and it was compiled by companions of Muhammad (P.B.U.H) after his death. Before the compilation of Quran it was only memorized by companions of Prophet (P.B.U.H). Hazrat Usman (R.A) was the one who had the responsibility to guard Quran and he is famous as “Jami ul Quran” because he compiled the Quran in the form of Book.
Quran has “114 chapters” which are divided in “30 Paras” and it has “6666 Ayat” whom responsibility is taken by Allah himself to guard it. As it is clearly said by Allah:
“Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian”.
(Al-Quran [15:9])
Hadith:
Hadith an Arabic word means ”report” but according to the Muslims the meaning of hadith is “a saying, actions or silent approvals or disapproval of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H)”. Hadith is the implementation of Quran Majeed explained by Prophet (P.B.U.H). His duty was not only to convey the message of Allah to the peoples but he had given very important duty which was to explain the message of Allah and guide them about the implementation of that message. Some people regard hadith the second guideline after Quran but we cannot separate both because we cannot explain hadith without relating it to Quran.
Hadith has six major books called as “kutub ul Sittah”. These are sometimes called as Al-Sihah Al Sittah which means “The Authentic Six”.
Following are the six major books of hadith but their order is different in different sects of Islam due to their authenticity:
*Some scholars consider “ibn Majah” the sixth book whereas some disagree and add “Muwatta Imam Malik” in the list of six books.
Sahih Bukhari:
The first and the most authentic book considered by most sects of Islam. It was compiled by a Persian Muslim “Muhammad Al-Bukhari” in 854 AD. The book contains the collection of 7275 ahadith in which only 4000 are said to be non-repeating. It is the best guideline for Muslims to understand the knowledge of hadith and every Muslims should have this book with him. Allah has sent the message and Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) has explained the message to us, now it is our duty to understand the message and act upon it. As Quran says:
“And obey Allah and the Messenger (Muhammad SAW) that you may obtain mercy.”
(Al-Quran [3:132])
